When: May 17, 2008 – 8:30 AM – 5PM

Where: St. Edwards Professional Learning Center, Austin, TX

 General Call for Speakers

Austin Code Camp is looking for speakers and session leaders.

Austin Code Camp is looking for ways to make its 3rd Code Camp the best it can be. The secret is you! This is an Austin developer community based event that requires both speakers and attendees. The goal of the Code Camp is to provide an intensive developer to developer learning experience that is fun and technically stimulating. The primary focus is on delivering programming information and sample code that can be used immediately. The event is free and all slides, manuals and demo code are provided free!

This one-day camp is hosted at the St. Edwards professional learning center. As a community based event this is a general call for speakers and session leaders to help make this event a success. The Code Camp will contain 1 – 1.5 hours sessions on topics the local community values; these session depend on the speakers and attendees.

 Requested Session Types:

Code focused presentation – These are presentations that include both a little power point and a lot of code demos. Given the audience that is attending it is important that a large amount of the presentation is focused on code and coding related techniques.

Chalk Talks – These sessions are designed as a facilitated discussion around a developer topic. They are presented as a free form facilitated discussion that leverages the expertise of the presenter and the combined knowledge of the group to explore a specific topic.

Hands-on-labs – St. Edwards has a computer lab available at the facility, so this gives us the opportunity to explore a hands-on-lab option.

Additionally, based on feedback we are sponsoring the following tracks. All presentations must fall into these tracks to be considered.

Types of Sessions:

  • General Development - This is a track that discusses general best practices for software development not tied to a specific application library or framework. Possible topics would be design patterns, testing strategies, specific language features (LINQ, generics).
  • Smart Client – This track is designed for topics related to Smart Client related development topics. This includes Windows Forms and Windows Presentation Framework applications, Microsoft Office or mobile devices.
  • Web Track – This track is designed for topics about Web based development that includes ASP.NET, MVC Framework, AJAX, and Web Services.
  • Project Management – This track is designed for presentations and chalk talks that include development process fundamentals and project planning activities such as size estimation, requirements gathering, etc.

Speaker Q&A

Austin Code Camp will include two new opportunities for attendees to interact with speakers. There will be a public Speaker Hangout where speakers are encouraged to have informal Q&A after their presentations.
